Bio

Ed is a Beaver County native, graduating from Center High in 1977. He was a basketball player at Penn State Beaver for two seasons (77-79) under current Hall of Honor member, Eldon Price. 

After graduating from Penn State in 1982, DeChellis began his storied coaching career as a graduate assistant for two seasons. He secured his first assistant coach role at Salem College in West Virginia from 1984-1986 before “coming home” to as assistant coach role at Penn State from 1986-1996. 

To start the 1996 season, he transitioned to his first head coach role at East Tennessee State where he held the position for seven years. During that span he led his team to 3 consecutive conference championships and was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002 as well as leading his team to the NCAA Tournament in 2003.  

He again returned to Penn State in 2003 where he was the head coach until 2011. During his tenure he made an NIT appearance in the 05-06 season, won the NIT in 2009 and was also named the Big Ten Coach of the Year that same season.  In 2011 he guided the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance. 

In 2011, Ed was named the head coach at The U.S. Naval Academy, a position he currently holds.  He founded the Veterans Classic. One of the most successful pre-season tournaments in the nation.  He currently has over 350 career wins, winning his 300th against Layfayette in the 2017-18 season.
