Beaver Volleyball Sweeps CCAC in First Win of the Season
Beaver finds momentum and carries it through the match.
Monaca, PA – Penn State Beaver Women's Volleyball tipped off today at 2:00pm against CCAC. Beaver was looking to bounce back after losing their first four games against some tough opponents to get their first win of the season.
In set one Beaver started off hot by taking the lead 8-3. After taking the lead Beaver did not let up and did not allow CCAC to score more than 2 points in a row for the rest of the set. Beaver went on to take the first set 25-11. CCAC did not quit after the first set and shocked Beaver by getting off to a 7-0 start to set 2. Beaver was able to fight through this rough patch and slowly claw their way back and tie the set at 15-15. After tying the score Beaver kept the momentum and took set two 25-19 and extended their lead in the match to 2-0. In the beginning of the third set the score was back and forth until CCAC had a 1-point lead at 6-5. After this Beaver stole all the momentum and went on an 11-point run and took the lead 16-6. CCAC was not able to overcome this deficit, and Beaver won the third set 25-11 which won them the match 3-0.
Beaver's player of the game was Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA) with 7 aces, 9 digs, and 4 kills. Another standout player for beaver was Julianna Butler (Franklin, PA) who had 10 kills, 4 digs, and 1 ace. Sofia Perez (Bogota, Colombia) also had a good game with9 kills, 5 digs, and 2 aces.
Beaver looks to carry this momentum into their next match against Kent State Tuscarawas at home on September 10th at 7:00pm.
