Beaver Sweeps New Kensington for the Second Time this Season
Monaca, Pa - Volleyball was back in conference play tonight taking on Penn State New Kensington for the second time this season. When they met earlier in the season, Beaver swept New Kensington 3-0. Going into this game, however, Beaver has been on a four game losing streak, the highest streak they have been on this season. Beaver currently sits 3-5 in conference play and 6-9 overall putting them in sixth place in the USCAA polls this week.
Beaver turned it around tonight coming out with a much needed 3-0 win over New Kensington. In the first set, Beaver won 25-18, and in the second set won by even morning defeating New Kensington 25-13. The third set was not the best for the Lions letting New Kensington stay close, but by the end they were able to pull out a 25-22 win, breaking their losing streak, and sweeping New Kensington for the second time this season.
First year Zoie Reid (Salem, OH0 came out with player of the game finishing with 12 kills, 3 aces, 5 digs, and 2 blocks. Third year Lanie French (Beaver, PA) also played a great game for the Lions finishing with 12 kills and 14 digs. First year Sofia Perez (Bogota, Columbia) finished with 5 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, and 13 digs. Second year Courtney Simpkins (Palm Bay, FL) finished with 1 kill, 36 assists, 1 ace, and 9 digs.
Beaver will be back for more conference and taking on a non-conference competitor when they travel to Penn State DuBois on Saturday, October 14 for a tri-match. In the first game Beaver will be taking on Penn State DuBois and in the second game the Lions will be taking on Cincinnati Clermont.
