The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions Volleyball Team began their season today in the USCAA Tip Off. Beaver hosted Penn State Dubois, Greater Allegheny, Fayette,  Kent State Tuscarawas, UC Clermont, Christendom, Miami University, Carlow University, and J&W Charlotte.  

In their first match of opening day, Kent St. Tuscarawas downed Beaver 3-1. Play of the game and freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) led Beaver with 7 kills on 23 attempts, 1 ace, and 2 digs. Senior Breann King (Houston, PA) had 3 kills on 19 attempts, 2 aces, 6 digs, and 2 solo blocks. Freshman Melanie Chuu (Queens, NY) had 7 digs and 3 aces. In their first set, Beaver was downed 14-25. In their second set, the Lady Lions fought hard winning 25-22. In the third and fourth sets, Beaver fought hard but could not overcome losing 22-25 and 23-25.  

In their second match of opening day, Beaver fought hard against Christendom, but could not prevail losing 3-0. Beaver fought hard in the first set losing 26-24. Christendom then took the second set 25-17 and the third set 25-15. In Beaver's fight to beat Christendom, player of the game and freshman Melanie Chuu (Queens, NY) led with 10 digs and 1 ace, Senior Breann King (Houston, PA) had 7 kills on 11 attempts, freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) had 5 kills on 21 attempts, and Senior Jakelia Baker (Augusta, GA) had 6 kills on 4 attempts.  

They are set to take on Penn State Fayette tomorrow, September 3, in the second day of the USCAA Tip Off event.
