Beaver cruises past Greater Allegheny, 3-0

McKeesport, Pa. -- The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team headed down to Allegheny, Pa. on Tuesday night for the team's third bout this season against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Beaver defeated Allegheny both times at home and look to take this one on Allegheny's home floor.
Beaver came out strong an took an early lead in the first set (10-2). Allegheny then took a time-out. However, the ladies were clicking on cylinders offensively and went outscored Allegheny 13 to 6 on kills, taking the set 25-12. The second set faired a lot tougher for Beaver, as Allegheny kept the game within a few points for most of the set. However, Beaver locked-in on offense and pulled away late with a 25-21 set win. Up two sets to zero, Beaver's momentum and an eight-point run helped the team stay ahead for the first half of the third set. Allegheny cut the lead down to a few points towards the final minutes, but Beaver held on a took the set 25-20.
Brooke Tomasko was a force on offense tonight. Emily Keener also had an impressive performance, racking up 34 for Beaver. Maria Slater made a statement on defense with 4 blocks. Heaven Bowmen also had an impressive defensive performance with 14 digs.
Tuesday's win earns Beaver back-to-back conference wins and staying hot as heading into the final five games of the regular season. Beaver has performed well in the last few weeks and has now improved to 4-4 conference record to claim third place in the west in the PSUAC standings.
The Lady Lions will be back for three matches at home this Saturday, Oct. 13. The team will first take on Community College of Beaver County at 12 p.m.
