Hazleton, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball team traveled to Penn State Hazleton to take on both Penn State Hazleton and Penn State Lehigh Valley in a very important doubleheader for Beaver. The team comes into these games sitting in a good spot for playoffs with a lot of conference games still to be played, so winning both games of this doubleheader would really help Beaver in the PSUAC standings.
In the first of the two games of the day, Beaver took on the women of Hazleton in what turned out to be a very good match for Beaver. Beaver played very well all around in this match, as they outplayed Hazleton at net and from the service line, while also tallying 32 team kills as compared to Hazleton's 9. The team was led by Junior Roxy Kie, with 24 assists and 5 service aces, and Sophomore Morgan Cannister, with 11 kills and 8 digs, in their 3 sets to 0 win over Penn State Hazleton.
In the second game of the day for Beaver, the women faced off against Penn State Lehigh Valley. These two teams come into this game fighting to get to the top of the PSUAC standings, and the game reflected just how close these two teams are. The game was close from the very begining, as both teams played played extremely hard. Every set seemed to be a nail biter, going back and forth until the last points were scored in each set. Although Beaver played as hard as they have all season, it still wasn't enough to take home the win as they end up losing this match by a score of 3 sets to 0. Although the team dropped this game to Lehigh Valley they did have good performances in this battle by Freshman Brooke Tomasko, with 10 kills, and Junior Juliana Kon, who tallied 24 digs, and Sophomore Morgan Cannister, who racked up 8 kills and 4 solo blocks in the loss.
After this busy day for Beaver, the team now sits at 13-12 overall on the season, with a 9-4 conference record. As the season draws closer to an end, Beaver continues to play very well and the team hopes to continue this play for the start of playoffs. The team will play another doubleheader on Sunday, October 16, as they will finish off their conference play this season in Wilkes Barre against both Penn State Wilkes Barre and Penn State Worthington Scranton. The first game of the day is set to start at 12 pm, with the second game to follow right after.
