Wild Match for Lady Lions, Defeat Penn Highlands 3-1
The Lady Lions defeated Penn Highlands 3-1 in the final match of the WPCC/PSUAC Challenge, held in the Beaver Field house.
Monaca, PA- The Lady Lions finished the WPCC/PSUAC Challenge 2-1, after defeating Penn Highland 3-1 in a wild back and forth match.
It took Beaver a set and a half to wake up, losing set one 25-15, and falling behind early in set two (15-10). Beaver clawed their way back into set 2, stealing it 35-33. Beaver kept the pedal to the meTal in set three, capturing it by the astounding score of 25-2. Sophomore Ryanne "Roxy" Kie (Laguna, NM / Laguna Acoma) realed off 19 straight service point to take set two. In the forth set, Penn highlands responded, building an early lead and holding it into the late teens (19-16). Beaver came back again, tying the score at 20-20, and taking the set 25-22.
Leading the offensive efforts today were Morgan Cannister (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) who tallied 10 kills, followed by Kie with 6.
For their efforts, Beaver had two players named to the all-tournament team. Freshman setter Brenda Martinez (El Centro, CA / Southwest) was named tournament MVP with 53 assists on the weekend, and Kie was also named to the team.
Beaver now is 3-4 on this young season and now heads into conference play. The Lady Lions will host Penn State Fayette at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8th, 2015.
