Lady Lions Go 1-1 in Opening Day of the Penn St/ate Beaver/USCAA Preseason Tournament

Penn State Beaver falls to Robert Morris Springfield 3-0 in game one; redeems themselves beating Penn State New Kensington 3-0 in game two.

Monaca, PA-  The Penn State Beaver volleyball team kicked off the 2015 campaign at home, hosting the Penn State Beaver/USCAA preseason tournament. 

In game one, Beaver took on Robert Morris University Springfield and started off sluggish.  Starting four freshman, it took a while for the lady Lions to get there legs under them, falling behind quickly in set one.  Beaver clawed its way back late in the set, but it was a little too late, falling 25-20.  In set two, Beaver carried the momentum from their late first set run, and held leads of 12-6, 16-12, 20-16, and 24-19; but everytime Beaver made a run, Springfield answered.  Beaver could not get the 25th point, and Robert Morris took set two 26-24.  Beaver had its moments in set three, but fell 25-17.

Leading the offense were freshman, Morgan Cannister (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) with 10 kills and Ryanne "Roxy" Kie (Laguna, NM / Laguna Acoma) with 4 kills, while both players contributed 2 aces each.  

In game two of the day, Beaver made quick work of PSUAC foe Penn State New Kensington, winning in three straight sets.  Beaver won by the scores of 25-5, 25-14, 25-8. Leading the charge were Cannister and Mackenzie Keller (Conway, PA / Freedom).  Cannister had 9 kills followed by Keller with 5.  From the service line, senior, Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, PA / Freedom) added 9 aces.

Beaver will take on Maine Fort Kent at 11 a.m. on day two of the tournament on Saturday.
