Volleyball loses to Mercyhurst NE
Beaver loses 3-0
North East, PA- Penn State Beaver women's volleyball loses to Mercyhurst NE on Wednesday, October 16.
In the first set, Beaver and Mercyhurst went neck in neck and the score swayed back and forth. Beaver had 21 total attempts and 5 kills in the set. They played with drive and had great scoring effort but Mercyhurst played hard and answered with points. Mercyhurst won the set 25-20.
Beaver played harder in the second set, trying 28 times to capitalize and get points on the board. They had 6 kills and 23 of the 28 attempts were points scored. Mercyhurst kept their momentum up scoring each time Beaver thought they had a lead, Beaver lost this set by a mere 2 points with a score of 25-23.
In the final set, Beaver began to lose any edge they had. Mercyhurst was scoring numerous times before Beaver could answer the points. Beaver had only 17 attempts, 16 of which were points. Beaver had 3 kills among the 16 points. Mercyhurst had the drive to win the set 25-16, with a match score of 3-0.
Beaver's key players were Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox) who led the team's offense with a combined 9 kills. Beaver's defense was led by Brittany Davids (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) who had 5 digs and Ward who had 6 block assists.
Beaver faces Penn State Fayette next on Saturday, October 19 at 11 a.m. hopefully Beaver can continue to win in the PSUAC.
