Volleyball loses to Penn State Fayette
Beaver loses, 3-1
Monaca, PA- The Penn State Beaver women's volleyball teams suffered a loss against Penn State Fayette after an intense game.
In the first set Beaver got off to a slow start against a very consistent Fayette team, scoring only 13 points in the set.
The match really heated up in the second set when Beaver was able to gain some momentum and play a consistent game allowing them to drop Fayette 25-17. Beaver is the first team this season to steal a set from the undefeated Fayette squad.
Despite the momentum from the win in the second set, in the third set Beaver couldn't keep up with Fayette who dominated the court this game, winning by a score of 25-8.
In the fourth and final set, Fayette had greater consistency in their play than Beaver, but Beaver put up a fight to the finish, unfortunately it wasn't enough as Beaver fell by a set score of 25-19 and lost the match 3-1.
Beaver's key players were Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA/Sto-Rox), Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) and Kalynn Hill (Pittsburgh, PA/Montour) who all led the team in kills. Miranda Pfeiffer (Freedom, PA/Freedom) and Mykel Colbert (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) were also essential to the teams defense in terms of digs.
Coach BJ Bertges said "I am optimistic based on how we played today for the rest of the season." The team continues to gain momentum and play with chemistry. Beaver now has a record of now 5-3 in the conference.
Beavers next matches are against Alfred State and Penn State New Kensington on October 6th.
