Lady Lions Take Season Series from DuBois
Beaver earns another sweep against Penn State DuBois

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions earned a straight set victory against Penn State DuBois, 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-18) to earn a season sweep against their PSUAC rivals.
In the first set, Beaver jumped out to a 11-0 lead behind strong play from Jenn Fannin (Harbor Creek/Erie, PA) and Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA). DuBois made a comeback though, scoring seven of the next ten points, to close the gap to 13-7. Beaver finished off DuBois, with a 25-13 win.
In the second set, Beaver jumped out to another lead, as they took a 5-2 advantage on consecutive kills by Rachel Grubbs (Freeport/Sarver, PA), Fannin, two from Nataile Gamble (Sto-Rox/McKees Rocks, PA). However, DuBois tied the set up at seven and even took a 10-7 lead, before Beaver tied the set back up at 11. DuBois once again held the advantage 17-13, before Head Coach Dan Smith took a timeout to settle his team. Beaver tied the game up at 18-18 after an Ella Epps (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh, PA) kill. The teams swapped lead changes, before Beaver once again tied DuBois at 21 and scored the final four set points to earn a close 25-21 win.
The third set, started out much like the first for Beaver, as Ward had three kills to propel Beaver to a 16-7 advantage. DuBois made a late rally, but it was too little, too late, as Beaver held on for a 25-18 victory and a 3-0 match win.
On the day, Gamble had 6 kills, while Grubbs (5) and Ward (4) were close behind the leader. Grubbs also led the Lady Lions with 13 assists, 20 digs and 3 three aces. Gina Richman (Union/Edinburg, PA) and Amanda Palombo (Quigley Catholic/Alquippa, PA) had 19 and 15 digs respectively.
With the win, Beaver improves to 7-8 on the season, including a 6-3 record in the PSUAC.
The Lady Lions will travel to LaRoche College (Pittsburgh, PA) on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 7 p.m.
