Beaver Falls to Defending PSUAC Champs
Lady Lions Drop Straight Set Affair to Fayette

Uniontown, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions (3-6, 2-1 PSUAC) dropped a straight set match (25-13, 25-14, 25-19) to the #4 ranked USCAA team, Penn State Fayette. The loss marks the Lady Lions first of the 2011 conference season.
In the first set, Beaver took an early 3-0 lead, behind two Fayette errors and an ace. Fayette scored four consecutive points to take a 4-3. However, Beaver tied the game up at five each but then lost momentum as Fayette upped its lead to 14-7. Fayette eventually finished Beaver off by a score of 25-13.
Fayette used their momentum, to gain a 10-3 advantage in the second set. Beaver had a late push, scoring five of six set points, to push the score to 22-13. However, Fayette scored three of the next four points to earn a 25-14 win.
The third set proved to be the closest of the night for Beaver. Down 8-3 early, Beaver managed to cut the lead to 17-14, behind a Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) block and several Rachel Grubbs (Freeport/Sarver, PA) kills. Unfortunately, Beaver could not manage to steal the set, falling 25-19.
On the game, Grubbs recorded 5 kills, 6 assists and 3 digs, while Ward had 2 blocks, 2 digs and a lone kill. Natalie Gamble (Sto-Rox/McKees Rocks, PA) also had 3 kills and 3 digs. In the loss, Beaver recorded 14 kills on the night.
Beaver will host a quad match on Saturday, September 24 at noon, where they will face Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State York.
