Beaver Finishes in 6th Place
Beaver Still In Search of First Win on the Young Season

Monaca, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions (0-3, 0-0 PSUAC) dropped a three set match to PSUAC rival Penn College of Technology (Williamsport, PA) to finish in 6th Place of the 2011 Penn State Beaver/USCAA Volleyball Classic held at Beaver Gymnasium.
In the first set, Beaver found themselves behind early by a score of 3-1. Despite solid play by freshman Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA), the Lady Lions never held a lead and lost the set 25-13.
In the second set, the Lady Lions were in a see-saw affair that included five ties and five lead changes. Beaver took its first lead of the set when Rachel Grubbs (Freeport/Sarver, PA) had a push kill and Ward followed with a spike to give Beaver a 7-6 advantage. Beaver took a 17-16 lead when Grubbs held three service points. However the Lady Wildcats proved to be too much and took the set 25-20.
Penn College never trailed in the third and final set as the won 25-21 and swept Beaver.
On the day, Beaver was led by Grubbs who recorded 7 kills, 4 assists, 3 aces and 1 dig. Ward led the team with 3 blocks.
Beaver will host Franciscan University of Steubenville (OH) on Saturday, September 3, 2011.
