Lady Lions Drop Second Game, Move to Consolation Round
Monaca, PA - On Saturday, Aug. 28, the PA College of Technology Wildcats defeated the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team, 3-1, pushing Beaver's record to 0-2. The defeat came in the second round of the USCAA/Penn State Beaver Pre-Season Classic.
In the first set, Beaver took the early lead, 6-2, and led at the 10-4 and 15-6 marks before Penn College made a run to cut the lead, 18-14. From that point, Beaver pushed ahead to win set one, 25-18.
In the second set, it was all Penn College as the Wildcats took the set, 25-19. In set 3, Beaver took an early lead by building a 4-point lead that they held until the 14-14 mark. From there, the teams battled to the 17-17 mark, and Beaver pulled away to score 6 unanswered off senior Heather Sandusky (New Brighton High School, New Brighton, PA) for a 23-17 lead. The Wildcats fought back and locked the score at 24-24. Beaver, unable to break the serve, lost the third set, 25-23. In set 4, the Wildcats held leads of 7-0 and 15-2 before Beaver went to work, getting as close as 22-18, but losing, 25-22.
Sandusky led Beaver with 10 kills, Kellie Karasack (Seneca Valley High School, Cranberry Township) had 24 assists, and freshman Myranda Raymond (Brashear High School, Pittsburgh, PA) led with 4 digs.
The Lady Lions are 0-2 and will play in the fifth-place game today at 2 p.m.
