Lady Lions Sweep New Kensington, 3-0

Monaca, PA - On Monday, Sept. 13, the Penn State Beaver volleyball team had a strong start in conference play when they swept Penn State New Kensington, 3-0.
In the first set, Heather Sandusky (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) helped start off a quick 6-0 lead with three kills. New Ken came back, but Beaver pushed ahead and took the win, 25-13.
In the second set, New Ken scored first, but Beaver responded quickly with a powerful kill by Khalihia Hines (Aliquippa High School/Aliquippa, PA). Tied at 3-3, Beaver went on a run and took a 9-3 lead, smothering New Ken in a 25-11 victory.
In the last set, Kayla Helble (Western Beaver High School, Industry, PA) set the pace with an early ace and finished with seven kills. Beaver held a 12-5 advantage before New Ken began chipping away for a comeback. Beaver held New Ken off for the win, 25-16, and their first PSUAC victory.
Beaver's Kellie Karasack (Seneca Valley High School, Cranberry Township, PA) had 26 assists, and Helble had 13 kills and two digs.
Beaver is now 1-0 in the PSUAC and 2-7 overall. On Wednesday, Sept. 15, Beaver travels to take on Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA) at 7 p.m.
