Volleyball Team Wins One at La Roche

Pittsburgh, PA - On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team went 1-2 at the La Roche Quad, defeating La Roche College (Pittsburgh, PA) 3-1, but losing to Carlow University (Pittsburgh, PA) 3-0, and Chatham University (Pittsburgh, PA) 3-1.
At 11 a.m., Beaver took on the La Roche Lady Redhawks who won the first set, 25-17, but Beaver took the next three sets for its first win of the season.
In the win, Heather Sandusky (New Brighton High School/New Brighton, PA) led the team with 12 kills, Kellie Karasack (Seneca Valley High School/Cranberry Township, PA) had 19 assists, and Kayla Helble (Western Beaver High School/Industry, PA) had 13 digs.
In the day's second game, Beaver took on the Carlow University Celtics, their toughest competitor of the day. In the first set, Beaver lost with only 5 points on the board. In the second set, the Lady Lions fought back but lost a very competitive match, 25-19. The Celtics won the last set, 25-10, and Beaver fell to 1-6 overall.
In the third game, Beaver lost to the Chatham University Cougars in four sets. Chatham took the first set, 25-16, and Beaver won the second, 25-17. The next two sets were close, but Chatham took the win.
In the two losses, Sandusky earned 18 kills, and Karasack added 34 assists for the Lady Lions who are 1-7 overall and 0-0 in the PSUAC.
On Monday, Sept. 13, Beaver will take on its first conference game when the Lady Lions host Penn State New Kensington (New Kensington, PA) at 7 p.m.
