Lady Lions Defeat Franciscan in Home Opener
On Monday, Sept. 8 the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball team won their season home opener in a five-game match-up against Franciscan University's Lady Barons.
In game one Beaver took a commanding lead after going on a 5-point rally and forcing Franciscan into time out. That didn't help the Lady Barons, though, as Beaver went on to win, 25-14, in the first set. In the second set the Lady Lions took another commanding lead from yet another 5- point rally. Franciscan fought back but couldn't stop Beaver in their second win, 25-18.
However, games three and four were eye openers for the Lady Lions with Franciscan's double victory, 21-25 (2-1) and 12-25 (2-2), but in game five, Beaver took control of the match again with a final score of 15-11.
In the win, Beaver sophomore Heather Sandusky (New Brighton, PA) recorded 12 kills while sophomore Brittany Clair (Cranberry, PA) led with 9 digs. Freshman Katie Landis (Rochester, PA) had the team's only block of the night and junior Jen Hain (Pittsburgh, PA) recorded 17 assists.
The Lady Lions are 2-5 overall. On Thursday, Sept. 11 they host the La Roche College Lady Redhawks at 7 p.m. The first 100 students to attend the game will receive a Penn State Beaver Lady Lions volleyball t-shirt.
