BEAVER FALLS, Pa.—The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team's winning streak was ended after falling to PSUAC rivals Penn State Hazleton during Saturday's match, 7-0.
The teams were evenly matched during the first period. At the fifth minute, the offense made it to Hazleton's penalty box as sophomore Stephanie Sosa-Bravo (New York/Grand St. Campus) shot a corner kick but missed. As the period continued, freshman Megan Bartley (Austintown/Austintown Fitch) saved Hazleton's three shots by the 22nd minute, but the opponents managed to knock back a goal four minutes later (1-0). Hazleton seemed to have control of the ball for the remaining minutes of the first, but Bartley fended off another six shots, which helped Beaver stay in the game only down by one to wrap the first half (1-0).
Beaver didn't fare so well in the second period, as Hazelton did a good job moving the ball down to the Lady Lion's side of the field, and Beaver allowed the visitors to put up six goals while going scoreless to take a 7-0 loss for the day.
Sosa-Bravo with three shots and three on goal, freshman Veronica Andujar (Weston/American Heritage Boca/Delray) finished with three shots and one on goal, and sophomore Marissa King (Dubois/Dubois Area) finished with one shot.
At the net, Bartley had 15 saves against the 22 SOG she faced.
After today's loss, Beaver falls to a 2-4 overall record and 1-2 in the PSUAC conference standings.
The Lady Lions will be away on their next game Monday, Sept. 30, where they will battle against West Liberty University. Game time is at 6 p.m.
