Butler, Pa. – The Lady Lions were back on the road on Friday to play the team's second of two back-to-back final conference matches of the regular season against Penn State Schuylkill. Beaver looked great against the ladies of Penn State Lehigh Valley on Thursday, shutting them out 11-0. The ladies are playing very well as the post-season with the post-season approaching quickly and look to capture another conference win against conference rival Penn State Schuylkill.
In the first period, the teams played evenly matched against each other and kept the game scoreless for the first 33 minutes. Then, Beaver's
Marissa King found
Roxy Stalnaker at the 12-yard line and helped Stalnaker to score Beaver's first goal on an assist (1-0). This lite a fire under the Lady Lions' offense as they quickly made their way back down to Schuylkill's goal line less than three minutes later. Then, at the 37th minute,
Bukuru Edisa fired a goal right into Schuylkill's net, on an assist by
Abbie Miller, to give Beaver a 2-0 goal lead. Beaver turned the tables around and took over the game with Miller following up right behind Edisa with another Beaver goal to put the team up by three goals going into the second half.
With a comfortable 3-0 lead over the ladies of Schuylkill, Beaver stayed aggressive and did a great job maintaining possession of the ball. At the 49th minute, Beaver's
Katie Valiga made her presence known by scoring the fourth goal for Beaver on an assist by Edisa (4-0). As the second continued, the game remained scoreless until Stalnaker shank her second goal of the night the 71st minute, (5-0). Schuylkill persisted until the last minutes of the game and scored a late-game goal but couldn't recover from the four-goal deficit in time. Beaver won the game 5-1.
After Friday's win, the ladies end the regular season with a 4-2 overall record in the PSUAC standings and remain in third place. Beaver will be away for the last regular season game against Mercyhurst on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.
