New Brighton, PA -- Beaver loses second conference game to Hazleton.
In their second PSUAC match-up in two days, the Lady Lions hosted Penn State Hazleton Sunday afternoon. In the first half Beaver gave up two goals in the first 16 minutes of play, but then got aggressive on defense and kept the offense of Hazleton at bay for the remainder of the half.
In the second half, still feeling the defensive mometum, the ladies netted their first goal of the game at 56:05, an unassisted goal by Lauren Banks. Trailing by just one, Beaver looked to make the game a close one until the last ten minutes of play when they gave up two late goals, running out of gas in the afternoon heat. The final score of the game was 4-1, but did not accurately reflect the intensity of the game as the ladies are starting to come together as they reach the midpoint of their season.
In goal for Beaver was Brittany Zahn in the first half with 12 saves and 2 goals against and making her goalie debut was Alexa Dipietrantonio in the second half. Alexa made 17 saves and also gave up 2 goals. The Lady Lions now sit at 0-5 and have six days of rest and preparation ahead while they wait to host Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday, September 23rd. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
