New Brighton, PA -- Beaver loses to Point Park in a defensively minded game.
To open the game, both teams looked very solid on defense especially Beaver as they pressed down the field several times in the half, keeping the ball out of their end and getting to their marks quickly. Despite the tight defense and Brittany Zahn playing like a wall, the Lady Lions allowed Point Park to score with just 12 minutes left in the first half. Taking the 0-1 deficit into halftime.
In the second half, the Beaver offense struggled to get things going, only producing 7 shots on goal while their defense gave up three goals in the half including a pentalty kick (48:43, 58:19, 60:14). Despite the loss, Beaver looked as though their defensive game is improving and their offense is solidifying as they produced 8 shots on goal in 10 shots.
Leading the scoring efforts were Lauren Banks with 3 shots on goal and Edisa Bukuru with 2 shots on goal. Zahn faced 24 shots, making 20 saves.
The Lady Lions will take a few days off and return to action on Saturday as they open conference play against Penn State Brandywine on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
