White Oak, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team traveled to White Oak to take on Penn State Greater Allegheny for one of the team's last conference games this season. Currently fighting to retain a third place spot in the PSUAC standings, Beaver needs to get a one in this one in order to maintain their good playoff position.
The first half of this game started off looking like this would be one of Beaver's tougher games this season. Both teams came out playing well, and it was Beaver who managed to find the back of the net first thanks to Sophomore Bukuru Edisa. With the momentum still in their favor Beaver continued to attack the net, eventually scoring their second goal of the game off of the foot of Senior Jessica Spina. Beaver would hold this lead going into halftime, and the rest of the game as neither team could manage to score in the second half, due in part to great goalie play for both sides. When it was all said and done, Beaver went home with a 2-0 win in a game that was a must win late in the season.
The Beaver women now sit at 7-8 overall, with a 5-4 conference record. The team is currently in third place in the PSUAC standings, and it looks as if they will stay there to finish out regular season play. Beaver was led in this game by an outstanding performance in goal by Sophomore Brittany Zahn, who had 8 saves on 8 shots in the game. The team will take the field next on Monday, October 24, as they will play their final game of the season at home against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Game time is set for 4 pm.
