Rochester, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team took on Penn State Mont Alto late in the season. Beaver looks to take a win from Mont Alto in this one, as the the two teams come into this game side by side in the PSUAC standings. It looks like the winner of this one will jump into third place, so the stakes are high for both teams coming in.
The game started off with Beaver taking hold of the momentum right away thanks to Beaver's Jessica Spina. Her goal was the first of many for Beaver in the first half of play, as the team would be on the attack for almost the entire game racking up 53 shots throughout. However, Mont Alto faced tough odds from the start of the game as they began play with only 9 girls on the field. Beaver took full advantage of this in the first half, scoring almost at will for a short time. As the game went on the Beaver team kept the pressure up and cruised to a victory in this one, with a final score of 5-0.
Beaver took home an important win today, as they now hold the third spot in the PSUAC standings behind Penn State Brandywine and Penn State Schuylkill. The team now holds a 6-8 overall record while improving to 4-4 in conference play. Beaver was lead to the victory in this game thanks to the efforts of Sophomore Morgan Stillwagon, who tallied three goals in the first half alone. The team will play again on Wednesday, October 19 at Penn State Greater Allegheny. Game time is set for 3 pm.
