Rochester, PA -- The Penn State Beaver women's soccer team took on the ladies from Penn State Schuylkill on what turned out to be a wet Saturday afternoon. The Beaver women come into this game on a two game losing streak and hope to get back on track in this one as one of their leaders, Sophomore Morgan Stillwagon, returns to action coming off an injury that has kept her sidelined for the begining of the season.
The game started off slow, as both teams seemed to be unorganized and flustered as play began. For the first few minutes the ball barely left midfield as neither team could get any good chances or even control the ball. Finally, Schuylkill got their game together and scored twice within a span of a minute. This sparked a little fire in the Beaver girls and when Morgan Stillwagon entered the game they seemed to have a little momentum working for them. In the 43rd minute Beaver finally answered back as Jessica Spina scored a goal off of a great assist by Morgan Stillwagon. That was the end of the scoring in the half as they went into halftime with a score of 2-1 in favor of Schuylkill.
The second half started off the same as the first as neither team really ran away with the game at first. As the half went on rain started to come down and this didn't help Beaver as it became even harder for them to get any scoring chances. In the 73rd minute Schuylkill scored the final goal of the game as they capitalized on Beaver's sloppy play. The rest of the game Schuylkill held Beaver at bay and when it was all said and done Beaver had dropped their third game in a row by a score of 3-1.
Beaver now sits at 2-7 overall on the season with a 1-3 conference record after their lose against Schuylkill. The team overall didn't look bad in this game although there was a lot of miscommunication and sloppy play. However, Beaver did get a big boost in this game as Sophomore Morgan Stillwagon returned from injury and so far has looked to give Beaver a spark that they've been missing so far this season. The women will return to action on Thursday, October 6 against Westmoreland CCC. Game time is set for 4 pm.
