McKeesport, PA -- In their last game of the season, the Lady Lions of Beaver traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny looking to wrap up their season on a positive note. After battling through a season riddled with injury and a small roster, Beaver came ready to play.
The first half of play was relatively quiet with the only goal in the half being scored by Beaver's Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA/Burgettstown) at the 1:31 mark. Charlier, whose goal was unassisted put up an additional 3 shots on goal in the game.
The second half of the game is when Beaver found their stride and added to their one goal lead in a big way. At the 53:46 mark, Jessica Spina (Jefferson Hills, PA/Thomas Jefferson) netted an unassisted goal to up the lead to 2-0. In the 61st minute of the game, Beaver was able to add an impressive two goals in the minute. At 61:13, Ana Paula Garcia (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Santo Antonio) scored, and at 61:51 Spina netted her second goal of the game, but she was not done. In the 69th minute Spina netted her third goal of the game giving her a hat trick, her first of her collegiate career. With the lead 5-0, Beaver kept the scoring alive with late goals by Carissa Noce (Burgettstown, Pa/Burgettstown) and Miranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) to end the game with a final score of 7-0.
This win ends Beaver's season with an overall record of 2-11 under first year head coach Shaun Schetka. As they enter the off-season, Schetka looks to have a great year of recruiting and will continue to build the program into their fifth year.
