Beaver Strikes First, Fall to Westmoreland
Lady Lions Drop Home Opener
September 10, 2011
Unionville, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions Women's Soccer Team (0-4, 0-0 PSUAC) dropped a 12-1 decision to the Westmoreland County Community College Lady Wolfpack (Youngwood, PA) in their home opener at Green Valley Park.
Things got off on a positive note to start the contest as sophomore forward Brittany Martin (Hopewell/Tampa, FL) scored the first goal of the season for Beaver in the 7th minute of play. Beaver continued to thwart the WCCC offensive attack, as freshman sweeper Rachel Borrell (Downingtown East/Downingtown, PA) kept the ball out of keeper Constance Robinson's (V.C.W./Chicago, IL) net.
However, the WCCC attack would notch its first marker in the 19th minute and also added another in the 20th minute. Beaver was no match the WCCC onslaught as the visitors built a 7-1 lead at the half.
WCCC added five more goals in the second half, despite Brittany Martin's stellar play in net, as she came in to relieve Robinson and allowed only one goal while saving six Lady Wolfpack shots.
Beaver has a quick turnaround, as they face Hilbert College (1-2, 0-0 AMCC) (Hamburg, NY) tomorrow at Green Valley Park, Sunday, September 11th at 12 p.m.
