Wrestling Earns First 2 Wins of the Season
Beaver defeats Defiance College and Penn State Greater Allegheny at Defiance College Tri-Match
Defiance, OH -- Penn State Beaver traveled to Defiance College in Ohio this afternoon for a tri-match, coming home with their first two wins of the season.
In their first match of the day Beaver faced the host, Defiance College. Four Beaver grapplers won their bout by forfeit leaving freshman, Dustin Winkle (Independence, PA / Hopewell) as the lone true win. Winkle won at the 149 weight class by a 5-2 decision, earning his first win of the season. Also wrestling against Defiance was freshman, Alex Peng (McKees Rocks, PA / Montour) who also won by decision in an exhibition meet. Beaver won by a team score of 27-24.
In the second match of the afternoon, Beaver faced PSUAC rival Greater Allegheny in a non-conference meet earning a 30-21 win. Contributing in the team win was Winkle, earning his second win on the day and Seth Shiver (Harmony, PA / Seneca Valley) who won by fall at 157lbs. This also marks Shivers first win in his career at Beaver. Wrestling an exhibition match was freshman, Jim Helbley (Washington, PA / McGuffey) who won by decision.
After going 2-0 on the day, Beaver now sits with a team record of 2-2. The Lions return to action on Wednesday, December 10th at 6:30p.m. when they host a tri-match featuring Penn State Dubois and Penn State Greater Allegheny.
