Penn State Beaver Competes at USCAA/PSUAC Tournament
Three Beaver wrestlers travel to University Park's Rec Hall, Beaver falls 0-3.
University Park, PA – On Sunday, the Penn State Beaver Wrestling Team traveled to University Park's Rec Hall to compete in the USCAA National Wrestling Invitational hosted, by the PSUAC. Beaver, despite an injury plagued season, sent three wrestlers to compete against wrestlers from across the USCAA.
Senior, Dylan Winkle (Aliquippa, PA/Hopewell) faced WVU Tech in his first bout (174) losing by fall. In his second contest of the day, he was matched up with Penn State Du Bois, a familiar opponent. Despite having seen his competition earlier in the season, Winkle fell again ending his day at 0-2. This tournament marks the end of Dylan's career at Penn State Beaver.
Freshman, Courtland Woodard (New Orleans, LA/Brother Martin) wrestled (149) against opponents from Penn Tech and Alfred State but saw the same fate as Winkle, falling in both bouts and ending his day 0-2.
The bright spot in the day came compliments of Wendell Rubright (Harmony, PA/Seneca Valley) who, despite falling to both The Apprentice School and Penn State Du Bois in his early rounds, found himself competing for 5th place in the 141 weight class. Facing a tough Alfred State opponent, Rubright lost by fall and finished in 6th place on the day.
Coach Winkle, disappointed that his full squad wasn't able to travel due to injury, was still pleased with his two freshman wrestlers' performances and is excited to see them grow into next season.
