The Lions Fall 0-2 to Start the Season
Buffalo, NY - Beaver was back in action taking o Bryant and Stratton Buffalo for day 2 of the Bobcat Kickoff Classic. On day 1, Beaver fell just short losing to Bryant and Stratton Syracuse, and was looking forward to getting their first win of the season. However, today did not go the way the Lions planned.
Beaver had a great start to the game in the first quarter. They came out on an early scoring run to finishing with a 19-12 lead by the time the buzzer sounded. The second quarter is when Beaver started to fall. Beaver started off the quarter with a 21-12 lead, but the Bobcats chipped away at the lead, and with three minutes remaining in the quarter, the game was tied 25-25. Each team traded off buckets from there, and by the end of the half, Beaver had fallen by two points with the score 34-32.
For almost two minutes into the third quarter, neither team scored a single basket. The Bobcats changed that by making a layup, which Beaver followed by a layup of their own. The score remained neck-in-neck until the Bobcats gained a six point lead over the Lions to end the quarter. The fourth quarter was not easy for Beaver at all. The Lions ended up being down by 10 points half way through. They made a comeback, but it was not enough and with just one minute remaining, the Lions were down by 13 points. They could not come back from this, and the game ended in a 61-72 loss to end the Bobcat Kickoff Classic.
Fourth year Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) claimed player of the game for the Lions finishing with 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals. First year Taylor Woodruff (Pittsburgh, PA) followed with 10 points, 2 assists, and 1 rebounds. First year Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) came off the bench to score 8 points and grabbed 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 1 block. Second year Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh,PA) also came off the bench to finish with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.
The Lions will be back on the road for a non-conference match-up against Bethany College. Tip off begins at 6pm so stay up to date on all the action at beaverathletics.com!
