Beaver Comes Out on Top Defeating Shenango
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver Women's basketball was back in play tonight. This game was a rematch against Penn State Shenango. The last time Beaver saw Shenango, they had lost by just one point. Beaver was looking for revenge in this game, and they got it.
The first quarter of this game was rough for Beaver. Shenango was able to go on a 5-0. Beaver was able to put a point on the board half way through the first quarter after a made free throw shot. Shenango remained in the lead until the end of the quarter. Shenango was up 18-14 going into the second quarter. Shenango remained in the lead for the first few minutes of the quarter. With just under seven minutes remaining, Beaver took a one point lead over Shenango. The game remained very close, with the largest gap jumping to four. The half ended with Beaver in the end having 30 points, and Shenango ended with 28 points.
Shenango went on 5-0 run in less than three minutes into the second half. Shortly after, Beaver regained their lead. With just under two and a half minutes remaining, Beaver gained a 11 point lead over Shenango. Beaver remained in the lead and ended the quarter with a 13 point lead over Shenango. Going into the fourth quarter the score was 51-38. Both teams played their heart out in the fourth quarter. Although Beaver remained in the lead, Shenango was able to close the gap a few times. Beaver was able to fight to keep their lead and ruined all hopes of Shenango traveling home with a win. Beaver got their revenge defeating Shenango 66-58.
Freshman Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) put up great minutes coming off the bench to finish the game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Junior Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) was also a key player in Beaver's win finishing with 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Sophmore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) showed out on both offense and defense having 12 points, 1 block, 4 steals, and 5 rebounds. Freshman Daniel Guzman (Plainview, TX) also showed out on offense and defense having 14 points, 4 steals, and 6 rebounds.
