Carlow Goes Down as Beaver Continues Their Win Streak
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver played a competitive game today taking on Carlow University, a USCAA Divison 1 team.
The first quarter of this game was rough for Beaver. Beaver had 11 turnovers, and Carlow exploited this getting easy baskets. Beaver struggled playing man-to-man against Carlow which allowed them to score easily inside the paint. Beaver was able to put up 22 points, but gave up 30 points to Carlow.
Although the first quarter was not in Beaver's favor, they turned it around in the second quarter. Beaver was able to switch up their defense into a zone and Carlow did not handle this well. Beaver was able to get great stops on defense and finish on the offensive end. By the end of the second quarter, Beaver was able to score 20 points and only allowed Carlow to score 12. The first half ended in a 42-42 tie.
The third quarter was once again in favor of Beaver. Scoring 18 points and only allowing Carlow to score 14 put Beaver in the lead going into the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter remained close until Beaver broke away gaining a 10 point lead over Carlow. Beaver remained in the lead and closed the game with a 7 point win over Carlow. The final score of the game was 73-80. Beaver continues to remain undefeated at home.
Junior Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) put up big numbers in Beaver's win over Carlow. Boykin finished with 23 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Boykin wasn't the only player scoring double-digits tonight. Freshman Daniel Guzman (Plainview, TX), sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX), and junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) all scored double-digits tonight. Guzman finished with 16 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds. Baker finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. Seggewiss had 13 points, 2 steals, and 4 rebounds.
