Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions hosted NCAA Division II opponent, Ohio Valley for another tough non-conference matchup late in the season. The Beaver girls came into this game on a three game losing streak, in which they picked up their first two conference loses of the season. No longer atop the PSUAC standings, Beaver will need to figure things out soon if they are to make it back to defend their conference championship.
This game was a fairly one-sided affair, as Ohio Valley took over the game in just a few minutes after tipoff. Beaver really struggled offensively early on in this one, shooting just 29% in the first two quarters combined. While Beaver struggled offensively, Ohio Valley didn't make the game out of reach for the Lions until the second half. The third quarter was the biggest for Ohio Valley, as they managed to out score Beaver 31-15, making the game virtually out of reach for Beaver. As the fourth quarter started, Beaver showed a little spark but it was quickly subdued as Ohio Valley continued to disrupt a Beaver offensive that looked entirely out of whack. When this game drew to a close, Beaver was unable to close the big lead created by Ohio Valley as they ended up losing by a final score of 79-55.
After their loss to Ohio Valley, Beaver now sits at 11-7 overall with a 7-2 in conference record. As it stands now, Beaver is still in contention for hosting a first round playoff game if they find a way to stop their losing skid. The team was led in their losing effort tonight by the efforts of Senior Asia Borders (Elwood City, Pa / Lincoln) who had 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 steals. The team will play next on Friday, January 27, on the road at Penn State York. Game time is set for 6 pm.
