The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team took to the road to take on the ladies of Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Beaver came into this game on a good, four game winning streak, and they looked to continue to be a dominating team in this one.
Beaver came out in the first quarter looking slow, as Wilke-Barre was able to jump ahead for the first few minutes. As the first quarter came to a close, Beaver had pulled back within one point as the team started to pull things together. However, the second quarter showed a much better Beaver team take over the momentum of the game. The team forced 10 turnovers from Wilkes-Barre, stopping their offense altogether as they only allowed the team to take 7 shots in 10 minutes of play. Going into the half, Beaver carried a 38-29 lead over Wilkes-Barre.
The second half of play was controlled almost entirely by Beaver, as their fresh legs off of the bench really helped to give them an edge in dominating a tired Wilkes-Barre team. In the third quarter, Beaver outscored Wilkes-Barre 17-9 and that seemed to be all the lead that Beaver needed to win this one. As the fourth quarter started the game was pretty much decided, as Beaver was able to hold onto and build on their big lead, winning by a final score of 73-54.
With their win over Wilkes-Barre, Beaver now holds an 11-3 overall record, while still remaining unbeaten atop the PSUAC standings. This win now puts the ladies win streak at five games, and the team shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Beaver was led in their victory by Senior Asia Borders (Ellwood City, Lincoln), who scored a team high 12 points while hauling in 6 rebounds. The team will play next on Tuesday, January 17, at Carlow University. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
