Beaver Hangs On For an Overtime Win Against Westminster
The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team took on the ladies of Westminster College for what turned out to be a nail-biter, in which Beaver prevailed in overtime by a final score of 74-68.

Monaca, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team wins in overtime against the ladies of Westminster College 74-68.
The ladies of Penn State Beaver come into their game against Westminster College ready for a battle. The Beaver team has played well so far this season, securing themselves a 7-3 overall record while remaining unbeaten in conference play. Beaver has improved through each week of play, and are really starting to play all-around solid basketball as the team has won six out of their last seven games.
This game started off as a high energy battle, as both teams came out poised to take control. The first quarter of play was won by Beaver, as they were able to gain an edge on Westminster early. However, Westminster would come back in the second quarter as they capitalized on Beaver's stale play before the half. As the clock wound down on the second quarter it was Beaver's Freshman, Jazmyne Boyd (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) who hit a three pointer with only seconds left in the half, giving Beaver a 40-38 lead.
The second half of play showed two teams who were determined not to let this game slip away. Both teams played very well, and the lead changed back and forth as one team got hot. As the third quarter concluded, neither team had taken control of the game, although Beaver did have a 51-49 lead. The fourth quarter was even more of the same from both teams, and Beaver's determination helped them to stay in this one and send the game to overtime. It was in overtime where Beaver finally got hot, outscoring Westminster 13-7 in the quarter and taking home the 74-68 win.
With their hard-fought win over Westminster, Beaver now sits with an 8-3 overall record while remaining undefeated in conference play. The women of Bevaer really proved how tought they are with their win over Westminster, showing just how determined they are to regain their PSUAC title. Beaver was lead in this one by the efforts of Senior Mason Depetro (Pittsburgh, PA / Cornell), who scored a team high 24 points, hauled in 9 rebounds, and tallied 6 assists. Beaver was also helped by Freshman Jazmyne Boyd, who scored 16 points and made some clutch shots to keep Beaver alive. The team will play next on Monday, January 9, against Villa Maria at home. Game time is set for 6 pm.
