Beaver falls to DII Davis and Elkins
Lady Lions defeated by the Senators, 81-75
Elkins, WV -- Lady Lions fall short to Division II, Davis and Elkins on the road.
To open the game, Beaver came out firing in the 1st quarter outshoot the Senators 36% to 29% from the floor. The quarter saw three lead changes and a Beaver lead of 6 points (15-9) with 3:10 to play before Davis and Elkins tied the game up on a free throw with :19 left in the quarter.
As the second quarter got underway, Davis and Elkins opened the scoring and then expanded their lead to 6 (24-18) at the 7:26 mark. Beaver would battle back with back-to-back 3-point shots from Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA / Trinity) and Khalia Adams (Washington, DC / Phelps) to tie the game at 24. Despite their push at the 6:00 mark, Beaver fell behind again and wasn't able to regain the lead before halftime, taking a 5 point deficit into the locker room, 38-33.
To start the second half, the Senators made an early jump shot, but Beaver quickley responded with a 6 point run from Miranda Davis (Port Saint Lucie, FL / Saint Lucie West Centennial), Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) and Mia Mattes (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park), to get within one with just over 7 minutes to play. But again Davis and Elkins dialed in their offense and built a 9-point lead with just a minute to play in the 3rd quarter.
Despite the early back and forth action of the first three quarters, Beaver wasn't able to rally back in the forth to overcome an aggressive Senator offense who shot nearly 60% from the floor in the final quarter. Even with Mattes having the hot hand, putting up 10 points in the 4th quarter alone, Beaver fell by a final score of 81-75 to their Division II opponent.
Leading the Lady Lion offense was Adams with 19 points followed by Mattes with 16. Beaver now sits at 1-6 overall and they will return to action on Saturday, December 5th when they make their first conference road trip to play Brandywine.
