Lady Lions come short of defeating Southern Maine CC
Beaver fall, 78-75 to Southern Maine CC

South Portland, ME - Lady Lions come short of defeating Southern Maine CC, 78-75 on Sunday afternoon.
Beaver started the first quarter off with a slow start falling behind 4 points (0-4) to Southern. Mia Mattes (Bethel Park, PA/ Bethel Park) changed the game when she scored 5 consecutive points, tieing the game 14-14 2 minutes before the end of the first quarter. The Lady Lions ended the first quarter just short of 2 points (18-20). Beaver and Southern Maine were neck and neck in the second quarter, holding two points against each other, each team's offense was equally matched. With about 3 minutes to go in the quarter, Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA/ Shenango) gained the lead (29-28) with a free throw. Following her was Khalia Adams (Washington, DC/ Phelps) who put four more points on the board for Beaver. The Lady Lions successfully ended the half 34-33 going into halftime.
Beaver opened the third quarter with two points gained off a layup from London Thompson-Wade (Monroeville, PA/ Gateway). The Lady Lions extended their lead multiple times by Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA/ Trinity). Beaver were 54-55 down going into the fourth quarter, a two point layup from Mattes put Beaver back in front in what was a very close game. Despite all of Beaver's efforts they came upp short of winning against Southern Maine CC, with a final score of 78-75.
Leading the Lady Lions in points was Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA/ Lincoln) with 20 points. Following behind was Mattes with 15 points.
Beaver's next game is Tuesday, December 1st at 6 p.m. against Penn State Du Bois.
