Monaca, Pa -- Lady Lions fall to Apprentice, 82-78 in OT during the Park Inn Tip-off Tournament.
Apprentice was quick on their feet to open the game with a 3 point lead over Beaver (3-0) within the first 20 seconds. However, that didn't last long when Beaver began to rally on them, dominating Apprentice up until the 5:03 mark before halftime. Apprentice tied it up 22-22 until Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA/ Trinity) scored on a jump shot. Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA/ Lincoln) kept the points rolling after adding one more point to the board (25-22). By the end of the first half, it was tied 31-31.
Apprentice opened the second half scoring 2 points on Beaver. But the Lady Lions were quick on their feet and London Thompson - Wade (Monroeville, PA/ Gateway) scored a minute later on a free throw (33-32). Each team made remarkable plays, able to keep the score even, resulting in overtime. Despite the many free throws and jump shots made from Kurtz and Khalia Adams (Washington, DC/ Phelps), Beaver were just shy of winning the game in overtime, losing by just 4 points, 82-78.
Leading the Lady Lions was Kurtz with 24 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. She was followed by Adams with 14 point. Adams was also named to the All-Tournament Team for her outstanding play over the weekend.
Beaver will return to action Saturday, November 21st when they travel to Central Maine CC for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
