USCAA NATIONAL CHAMPS!
The Lady Lions defeated St Joe's College (VT) 74-59 to claim the 2015 USCAA National Title
Uniontown, PA- For the second time in three years, the Penn State Beaver Lady Lions reached the USCAA Division II National Basketball Championship. In 2013, the team was a bit wide-eyed, and fell to Albany College of Pharmacy. In 2015, the Lady Lions squared off against the #1 seeded St Joe's College (VT).
The lady Lions came out ready, using stingy defense and a full court offense to build an early 9-2 lead. Beaver pushed the lead at the 5:00 minute mark to 18, but the bears immediately went to work and had the lead back to 11 by the 2 minute mark. Beaver went on a small run to end the half to take a 15 point lead into the locker room (36-21).
The Bears started the second half on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 11. Beaver responded again, pushing the lead to 16 by the first media time-out (15 minute mark) of the second half. Beaver led 54-35 with ten minutes left in the game. The Bears slowly made a comeback, cutting the lead to 12 with under 2 minutes to go but held on to win the USCAA National Championship by the score of 74-59.
Leading the team in scoring was Brittany Jackson (Turtle Creek, PA/Westinghouse) with 18 points followed by Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) who added 17 as well as 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the tournament. Also tallying a double-double was Morgan Kurtz(Washington, PA/Trinity) who had 11 points and 13 rebounds.
