3-peat!!!!
Penn State Beaver Women's Basketball wins third straight PSUAC Championship. Receive #2 seed in next weeks USCAA National tournament.
State College, PA- The Penn State Women's basketball team won their third straight PSUAC Championship, their fifth in seven years.
In the first half, the game was neck and neck. Beaver started off with a 4-1 run, but Hazleton responded with a run of their own, and held the lead until the 8 minute mark of the first half. Beaver built the lead to six points, but Hazleton chipped away and pulled even at the half, 37-37.
In the second half, Beaver's offence and defense took over. Beaver built a 17 point lead with seven minutes left in the game. Down 17, Hazleton did not quit. They were no strangers with the situation. Just a game ago in the PSUAC semifinal Hazleton found themselves down 17 with 7 to go against Brandywine, and were able to claw back in and pullout the victory. It looked like they may do it again. Hazleton pulled with-in 8 with four minutes to go, but Beaver was able to right the ship and pull out the 82-68 victory.
In the win, Beaver was led by freshman Brittany Jackson (Westinghouse/Pittsburgh, PA) with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Junior Morgan Kurtz (Trinity/Washington, Pa) added 14 and Sophomore Cassandra Flowers chipped in 10. Beaver held the team rebound edge 61-47.
Up next for Beaver, the USCAA National Tournament in Uniontown, PA. Beaver will play Thursday, March 5th at 6 p.m. in the main areana. #2 seeded Beaver will take on #7 seeded Berkley College of New York.
