Beaver Advances to Semi-Final
Penn State Beaver defeats foe Penn State Greater Allegheny
Monaca, PA--- Penn State Beaver women hosted their last home game for the regular season against foe Penn State Greater Allegheny. This was also Beaver's senior night.
With Beaver fighting for the second seed this evening it was not an easy path. In the first half Beaver would struggle from the field making it hard to take the lead. Beaver was down the whole first half until seven minutes left in the half. Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA/Lincoln) would make a jump shot to take the lead 20-18. But Greater Allegheny took the lead back and pushed the score to 27-22. As both teams continue to trade baskets, Beaver went into the half trailing 35-32.
Beaver came out to a slower start than usua in the second halfl. Beaver was down by nine points with 12 minutes left in the game. With the game winding down looking to go into Greater Allegheny's favor, Beaver would answer with last minute execution. Brittany Jackson (Turtle Creek, PA/Westinghouse) would go on a 5-0 run by herself making the score 71-68. Mason DePetro (Coraopolis, PA/Cornell) and Brittany Mineard (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaver Falls) would close the game out with making two clutch free throws a piece to secure the game. Beaver went on to win a close one 77-73.
Beaver was led by Khalia Adams (Washington, DC/Phelps) with 14, followed by Jackson with 13, and Borders with 12.
Beaver is now the second seed and will have a bye week and play a home semi-final playoff game February 21st at 4:30.
