Lady Lions Get Back to Winning Ways
The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions defeated Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday by the score of 69-58.
McKeesport, PA- The Lady Lions traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Tuesday, looking to start a new streak after their five game win streak was broken on Sunday by Penn State Hazleton.
Greater Alleghney scored the first two points of the game, but this would be the only lead GA held on the evening. Beaver built a lead of ten twice in the first half, only to see Greater Allegheny string runs of their own to tie the game at the ten and five minute marks. Beaver led at the half 29-26. In the second half, Beaver pulled away, pushing the lead to 13 with 12 to play. Greater Allegheny never recovered, and Beaver left with the 69-58 victory.
In the win, this weeks PSUAC player of the week Morgan Kurt (Trinity/Washington, PA) led the way with 18 points. Sophomore point guard Mason Depetro (Cornell/Coraopolis, PA) added 15. Sophomore forward Asia Borders (Lincoln/Ellwood City, PA) recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing rebounds. Turnovers were the key to victory in this game. Beaver scored 24 points off turnovers, forcing Greater Allegheny to commit 24.
With the win, the Lady Lions now sit at 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the PSUAC. Beaver will finish out the 2014 portion of thier schedule on Friday, when they host Penn State DuBois. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
