Beaver upsets Ohio Valley University.
Beaver defeats Ohio Valley 68-64
Monaca, Pa--- Penn State Beaver took on Ohio Valley University Monday night, pulling out a 68-64 upset.
Beaver already knew how this game could end up if they didn't play well against Ohio Valley, having lost to Ohio Valley last year 115-71. Beaver was clearly the under-dog going into this game but they took advantage of it and competed against the skilled Ohio Valley.
In the first half there were numerous lead changes. Beaver started off slow and was down 16-5 before making a 9-0 run pulling within two (16-14). The run started when Beaver went to a zone defense that slowed Ohio Valley down. Beaver trailed Ohio Valley 33-32 at halftime.
In the second half, Beaver went on a 8-0 run to take the lead that they owned most of the second half. Down the stretch, Ohio Valley ran into foul trouble. After having two players reach their foul limits, Ohio Valley had to finish the final four minutes with four players. Despite being down a player, Ohio Valley kept pace, pulling within two in the final minute. In the end, Beaver held on to win 68-64.
Brittany Mineard (Beaver Falls, PA/Beaverfalls) led Beaver with 20 points. Brittany Jackson (Turtle Creek, PA/Westinghouse) had a double-double (18 points and 18 rebounds). Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA/Lincoln) and Sidney Abernathy (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderice) both finished with double digits scoring 13 and 11 points respectively.
Beaver's next game is December 3rd against Penn State Fayette at 6:00 p.m. at home.
