Lady Lions defeat Division III Thiel College
Beaver picks up their second win of the season, 97-68.

The Lady Lions got off to a slow start against the Lady Tomcats of Thiel College as they fell behind 11-2 in the first five minutes of the game. A jump shot by Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Lincoln) sparked the Lady Lions offense as they pulled the game within five (11-6) on free throws by Brittany Mineard (Beaver Falls, PA / Beaver Falls) just one minute later. For the next eight minutes Beaver would battle from behind, staying with the Tomcats as they closed their lead to 3 on a pair of Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA / Westinghouse) to bring the deficit within 3 (25-22). With 6:10 remaining in the half, Sydnee Abernathy (Pittsburgh, PA / Allderdice) tied the game at 29 with a pair of free throws. With five minutes to go, the lead would change hands three times before Beaver took the lead for good and carried the momentum into half time, up by a score of 47-36.
In the second half Beaver came out firing on all cylinders, and scored at will increasing their lead to 20 points (76-56) with 8:33 to play in the half. In three minutes, the Lady Lions increased their lead to 29 on a jump shot by Natalie Gamble (McKees Rocks, PA / Sto-Rox). Despite Thiel's best efforts, they could not keep up with Beaver in the second half. Beaver went on to win by a final score of 97-68 over the Division III Tomcats.
This gives the Lady Lions their second win of the season (2-1). Leading the scoring efforts for Beaver was Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA / Trinity) who put up 23. She was followed by Flowers who put up 19 with 17 rebounds, giving her, her second double-double of the season.
The Lady Lions go on the road this weekend to face Davis and Elkins on Saturday, November 22 at 2:00 p.m.
