Lady Lions Win Second Consecutive PSUAC Championship
Beaver wins 100-74
University Park, PA- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions traveled to the Bryce Jordan Center to take on Brandywine in the PSUAC Championship on Tuesday.
At the start of the first half Beaver exploded out of the gate building the lead early. Brandywine kept Beaver's lead to a minimum for the first 10 minutes. At the 10:43 mark, Beaver's Sydnee Abernathy (Pittsburgh, PA / Allderdice) sparked a fire under Beaver who went on a scoring rampage for the rest of the half. Beaver led by 20 points to close out the half, 52-32.
In the second half, Beaver's momentum continued as they increased their lead. Brandywine chipped away at Beaver's lead but they were never able to get closer than 15. Beaver built their lead to 26, winning the championship 100-74.
Beaver was led by Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA / Trinity) with 20 points, Abernathy who had 19 points, and Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA / Westinghouse) who led with a double-double, 16 points and 13 rebounds. Beaver's defense out rebounded Brandywine 42-27, giving them the edge they needed to win for the second year in a row.
Beaver now sits at 15-3 in the conference and 18-10 overall. Beaver heads into the USCAA National Tournament scheduled to start next week in Uniontown, PA. The seeds and schedule will be released Wednesday via the USCAA website.
