Women Win Over Lehigh Valley
Beaver outscores Lehigh Valley 90 - 53.
Monaca, PA -- In an afternoon PSUAC match-up with Lehigh Valley, the Lady Lions of Beaver improved their conference record to 8-3.
The first four minutes of the game seemed to set the tone for the half as Beaver battled from behind. It was not until the 16:11 mark when Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) hit a jump shot to give Beaver their first lead of the game, 6-5. In just two minutes, Lehigh Valley had the game was tied at 10, but Beaver battled back again and then increased their lead to 8 (22-16) on a pair of free throws by Sydnee Abernathy (Pittsburgh, PA/Allderdice) at 9:43. Despite gaining momentum from this lead, Beaver couldn't keep Lehigh Valley out of the game and at 7:40 the game found itself tied again at 22. From this point forward in the half, the game was a back and forth battle but Beaver got a slight edge and took a one point lead into halftime (31-30).
Despite a first half that saw the lead change hands a total of nine times, the second half was dominated by Beaver. They opened the second half on an impressive 20 point run to gain a comfortable lead by just 15:26 (50-30). From this point forward, it was clear that Beaver was in control both on offense and defense as they held Lehigh Valley to just 23 second half points.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Flowers who had 20 points and 8 rebounds followed by Khalia Adams (Washington, D.C./Phelps) who had 18 points and 6 rebounds. Defensively, Beaver played extremely well as they had three players get double digit rebounds (Brooks, Hill, Borders). This win gives Beaver the momentum it will need as they head into their final home strretch of the season. They play host to PSUAC foe Du Bois on Monday, February 10th which is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
