PSU Greater Allegheny fights back in the second half giving Beaver their first PSUAC loss

McKeesport, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (9-4, 6-1 PSUAC) hit the road this evening against their PSUAC rival Penn State Greater Allegheny (McKeesport, PA).
Greater Allegheny came out strong in the game going on a 4-0 run to open things up before Coleen Mead (Newport Harbor/Costa Mesa, CA) hit a three pointer to put Beaver on the board. Beaver fell behind again trailing 12-5 but went on a 7-0 run and a Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) jump shot tied the game at 12 (11:20). Mulneix made one of two free throws on the next possession and Beaver took their first lead of the game 13-12 then soon expanded their lead to three with 10:58 left in the half. The first half saw two lead changes and four ties but Beaver went into the half ahead 34-26.
The Lady Lions of Beaver kept the momentum on their side leading by as much as 11 (43-32) with 12:35 left in the game. Unfortunately, Greater Allegheny responded strongly going on an 11-0 run and then took the lead 44-43 (7:12). The game continued to go back and forth with three lead changes in the final minutes. Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) gave Beaver the lead 55-54 with 1:36 left, but Greater Allegheny soon responded with a layup with 16 seconds left. Coach Moore called a timeout for one final play but it wasn't enough as Beaver fell to Greater Allegheny 56-55. This is Beavers first lost in their conference.
For the evening, Mulneix lead the team with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her second double-double in a row, followed by Temple with 13. The Lady Lions shot a season low 29.7% from the field and 22.7% from three point range.
The Lady Lions next game will be on the road on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 6pm against Penn State Brandywine (Media, PA).
