Lady Lions finish Myrtle Spring Trip 1-1 on final Day
Beaver defeated Cairn 12-4 and fell to Bridgewater State 4-1 on their final day of the spring trip.

North Myrtle Beach, SC- The Penn State Beaver Softball team finished up their South portion of their schedule, splitting a double header with Cairn and Bridgewater State.
In game one, Cairn took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first scoring two unearned runs. Beaver answered scoring six times in thier half of the first. Second-year Kierstyn Mays(Sterling, Ind), First-year Reza Benson (Sunbury, OH) and Fourth-year Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA) all had RBI's. Beaver broke this one open with 5 more in the bottom of the 4th. Cairn grabbed 2 in the 5th to briefly avioid the 8 run mercy rule; but Third-year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley, Ca) walked it off with a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, envoking the mercy rule and winning, 12-4. In the win, Arteaga, Benson, and First-year Emilee Wagonner (Freedom, PA) had two hits a piece. Benson had a triple and 4 RBI's on the day. Mays earned the victory on the strip, throwing 5 innings, giving up 4 hits, walking three, while striking out 5.
In game two, the game remained knotted at 0-0 until the bottom of the 4th, when Bridgewater State scored twice. They added one more in the fifth to build a 3-0 lead. Beaver got on the board in the sixth, when Fourth-year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) singled to right, driving in First-year Alison Delong (South Side, PA) and cut it to 3-1. Bridgewater added one more in the sixth and Beaver was quiet in the seventh as Bridewater won 4-1. Fourth-year Gabby Flynt (Fayetteville, TN) took the loss, throwing 4 2/3 strong innings.
Beaver finishes the week 2-4. They will return to action on Wednesday, March 19th, when they host St Vincent College for a DH. Gametime is set for 3PM.
