Lady Lions Finish Season in PSUAC Playoff Run
Aston, PA - Today the Lady Lions battle for the 2024 season has come to an end. The Lions fought hard twice taking on Penn State Schuylkill in 2 PSUAC Playoff games held at Penn State Brandywine. Beaver, the 5th ranked PSUAC team hit the road to go take on the #1 seed, Penn State Brandywine, and the #4 seed, Penn State Schuylkill in pool play. With the first game underway Beaver cut their deficet in half though couldn't finish the fight. The second game though was a little more exciting being down by 1 after the first, tying it up in the top of the second to only be down by 1 again after the second, and Schuylkill scoring once more in the 3rd to beat Beaver by 2 after a hard fight.
Game one was slow to start for Beaver not scoring until the top of the 6th inning. Beaver only had 4 hits this game, coming from 4 different players. 1st year, Kierstyn Mays (Sterling, IL), 3rd year, Maria Matts (Pittsburgh, PA), 1st year, Carly Harbridge (Chocowinty, NC), and 1st year, Cassidy Crean (Wrightsville, PA). Matts had 2 of the teams RBI's as well as Harbridge. On the bases 3rd year, Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) had a stolen base and so did 4th year, Kylie Magnotta (Monaca, PA). In the field Beaver turned 2 double plays. 4 players were involved in these double plays, Matts, Crean, 1st year, Haley Cook (Aliquippa, PA), and 3rd year, Gabbey Flynt (Fayetteville, TN). Starting on the mound for Beaver was Flynt. Flynt faced 20 batters giving up 8 hits, and only 3 earned runs along with striking out 4 batters. in relief for Flynt was Mays who threw to the final 9 batters giving up only 2 hits.
For game two Boyd started on the mound for Beaver giving up 8 hits and striking out 1 batter after facing 18. In relief was Flynt who faced 12 batters, giving up 2 hits and striking out 1. Game 2, Beaver had 5 hits coming from 5th year, Valentina Sandoval (Maimi, FL), Mays, Magnotta, and Crean. Magnotta had the lone RBI this game with the run coming from Crean who scored off Schuylkill errors. Scoring the first run for Beaver was Boyd who kicked the game off in the bottom of the first.
After a tough fought battle, the Lady Lions ended their season in the first round of PSUAC Playoffs. The team finished with a 21-22 record, going 11-7 in conference, 16-8 at home, and 5-12 away. The team looks to rebuild after losing 3 starters from their roster, 5th year, Valentina Sandoval, 5th year, Chloe Coleman, 4th year, Kylie, Magnotta. Looking towards next season the Lions will look to hit the ground running looking to finally make it back to the national tournament after a hitaus.
