Beaver Softball gets a clean sweep
Monaca PA- Today Penn State Beaver Softball played at home in a double header. The team played against Penn State Dubois in a riveting set of games that would lead to a minor delay in the second game and a clean sweep for Beaver.
The first game both teams started off not letting the other score for the first inning. Within the second inning Beaver started to get into the game scoring one run which was achieved by second year Selene Arteaga (Simi valley, CA). The team also managed to keep Du Bois at bay as they did not score a run in the second inning. Penn State Beaver would continue to keep them from scoring any runs until the fifth inning. Within the fourth inning Beaver started to really turn up the heat. The team scores three runs which was achieved by first year Haley Cook (Aliquippa, PA), third year Maria Matt's, (Pittsburgh, PA) and second year Selene Arteaga (Simi Valley). The team started getting push back from Du Bois in the fifth inning as they scored a run. Beaver kept a cool head scoring another two runs. Those two runs were scored by third year Mackenzie Boyd (Beaver, PA) and fifth year Chloe Coleman (Moon twp., PA). Dubois didn't end the game without a fight as they managed to score another 4 runs in the seventh inning. While they fought hard Beaver managed to pull ahead ending the game with a score of 6 - 5 Penn State Beaver for the win!
In the second game Penn State Du Bois began the game taking control as they scored one run in the first inning while beaver scored none. Within the second inning neither team was able to score a run at all. It wasn't till the third inning did Beaver turned it around, scoring fourth runs within the inning. While Du Bois didn't score any at all. Going into the fourth inning Beaver kept their lead strong scoring three more runs while also keeping Du Bois from scoring any. These three runs were achieved by second year Megan Crane (Moon, PA), Player of the game first year Cassidy Crean (Wrightsville, PA), and Fifth year Valentina Sandoval (Miami, FL). Going into the fifth, Du Bois began to gain momentum as the team scored three runs compared to Beavers one run that was scored within the inning by Third year Kylie Magnotta (Monaca, PA). Although it seemed like a fire was starting with Du Bois, Beaver quickly snuffed it out keeping Dubois from scoring any runs in the sixth inning while scoring another run in the sixth. Due to a weather storm the game had to be delayed before the start of the seventh inning. Coming back into the seventh inning the score was 9 - 4 with Beaver in the lead. Top of the seventh inning Du Bois was at bat. The game ended swiftly with Penn State Beaver getting three out. Ending the game with the final score of 9- 4 Penn State Beaver for the win!
