Monaca, PA - Today's non-conference match-up against Franciscan University ended with 2 more wins for Beaver. The Lady Lions were able to best the Barrons with scores of 6-4 and 11-3 in today's double header. After a tough fought first game Beaver was able to bounce back in the second with more fight and leave a mark on the game. Beaver has now beat Franciscan in all 4 games played this week which is an impresive feat against a NCAA competitor.
Game one started out hot for both teams. After 1 inning of play the score was already tied 2-2. Franciscan scored again before Beaver, scoring 2 more in the 3rd inning. Beaver waited to score again until the 5th inning but it was worth the wait, scoring 4 runs. Beaver had 11 hits in game 1. 5 of Beavers players had multi hit games. Senior, Cassadie Speed (Cranbury, NJ) went 2-3 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs, and both hit were doubles. Sophomore, Bre Thomas (Ambridge, PA) went 2-3 as well with 2 RBIs and 1 run. Junior, Kylie Magnotta (Monaca, PA) also went 2-3 with 1 RBI. Sophomore, Elena Denezza (New Brighton, PA) and Senior, Taylor Harper (Elk Grove, CA) both went 2-3 and helped the team get into good scoring postions. On the mound was Freshman, Leeanna West (Milford, NY) who threw all 7 innings, giving up 6 runs, 0 ER, and had 3 strikeouts.
Game two went much better for Beaver, scoring in every inning. Starting the game scoring 1 run per inning in the first 3 innings, then 4 in the fourth, and 2 more per inning in innings 5 and 6. Beaver had 11 hits again this game. Thomas went 3-4 this game with 2 RBIs, 1 run, and a homerun. Speed went 1-4 this game and scored a run. Denezza went 1-1 scoring 3 runs, off a walk and a HBP. Harper went 2-2 this game as well with 2 RBIs and scoring 1 run. Sophmore, Lorianna Swogger (Aliquippa, PA) went 1-1 in her pinch hitting spot, helping the team score the final run to run-rule Franciscan once again. On the mound this game was Thomas who threw all 6 innings, gave up 3 run, only 2 ER, and struck out 2.
Beaver is now 19-10 overall and 9-5 in PSUAC play. They will take the field again on April 19th at 3pm and 5pm when they take on Grove City at home. Come out and support or watch it all live on the Rise and Roar Network!
